Critical Illness Core Conditions

 

 

The ABI* have laid down specific definitions for 23 critical conditions. These definitions can be expanded upon to provide broader cover; however, the specific definitions ensure that all Companies who provide protection for that particular condition are providing a minimum level of benefit that will be the same whichever Provider you choose.

 

The 23 conditions to which the minimum requirements apply are as follows:

 

Alzheimers Disease                                                          

Aorta Graft Surgery                                                         

Benign Brain Tumour                                                         

Blindness                                                                       

Cancer     

Coma     

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts   

Deafness  

Heart Attack  

Heart Valve Replacement  

HIV Infection  

 

 

-  resulting in permanent symptoms

- for disease or injury

- resulting in permanent symptoms

-  permanent and irreversible

-  excluding less advanced cases

-  resulting in permanent symptoms

-  with surgery to divide the breastbone  

-  permanent and irreversible

-  of specified severity

-  or repair with surgery to divide the breastbone

-  caught in the UK from a blood transfusion, a physical

   assault or at work

Kidney Failure  

Loss of Hands or Feet  

Loss of Speech  

Major Organ Transplant  

Motor Neurone Disease  

Multiple Sclerosis  

Paralysis of Limbs  

Parkinsons Disease    

Stroke    

Terminal Illness  

Third Degree Burns    

Traumatic Head Injury

 

-  requiring dialysis

-  permanent physical severance

-  permanent and irreversible

 

-  resulting in permanent symptoms

-  with persisting symptoms

-  total and irreversible

-  resulting in permanent symptoms

-  resulting in permanent symptoms

 

-  covering 20% of the body’s surface area

-  resulting in permanent symptoms
